Privacy Policy

Hey this page explains what happens with your data when you visit techbreakdown.io. I’ve kept it as plain and honest as I can instead of burying it in legal jargon.

Who we are

Our website address is http://techbreakdown.io.

Comments

When you leave a comment on the site, I collect what you type into the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user agent string — this just helps catch spam.

If you use the same email address as your Gravatar account, an anonymized version of it (a “hash”) is sent to Gravatar to check if you have a profile picture set up. You can read Gravatar’s own privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will show up publicly next to your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the site, keep in mind that image files sometimes contain hidden location data (EXIF GPS). I’d recommend avoiding uploading photos with location data attached, since anyone can technically extract that from images on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you’ll have the option to save your name, email, and website in a cookie — purely so you don’t have to retype everything next time you comment. This sticks around for a year.

If you visit the login page, a temporary cookie checks whether your browser accepts cookies. It doesn’t store any personal info and disappears once you close your browser.

When you log in, a few cookies save your login details and display preferences. Login cookies last two days, and display preference cookies last a year. If you check “Remember Me,” you’ll stay logged in for two weeks. Logging out removes your login cookies.

If you edit or publish a post, one more cookie gets saved it just holds the post ID of what you edited, no personal data, and it expires after a day.

Embedded content from other websites

Some articles on this site might include embedded content like videos, images, or posts pulled in from other websites. That content behaves exactly like visiting the original site directly.

Those other websites may collect data about you, use their own cookies, add extra tracking, and monitor how you interact with that content especially if you’re logged into an account on their site at the time.

How long we keep your data

If you leave a comment, that comment and its details stick around indefinitely. This way, if you comment again later, it can be recognized and approved automatically instead of sitting in a moderation queue.

If you register an account on the site, I also store the info in your profile. You can see, edit, or delete that info anytime (though your username can’t be changed). As the site admin, I can also see and edit that info if needed.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account here, or you’ve left comments, you can ask me for an exported copy of the personal data I have on you. You can also ask me to delete it. The only exception is anything I’m legally required to hold onto for administrative or security reasons.

Where your data is sent

Comments left on this site may be checked through an automated spam-detection service before being approved.

Questions?

If any of this is unclear or you want to make a data request, just reach out through the Contact page. I’m happy to help.
